Atchol F is in a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins." Atchol reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Atchol F is used to treat high cholesterol, and to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors. Atchol F is used in adults and children who are at least 10 years old. Atchol F may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

A patient should consult a doctor before taking ATCHOL F TABLET if a patient has had a previous stroke with bleeding into the brain or have small pockets of fluid in the brain from previous strokes, has kidney problems. has under-Active thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), has repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains, has a personal history or family history of muscle problems, has previous muscular problems during treatment with other lipid-lowering medicines (e.g. other ‘-statin’ or ‘-fibrate’ medicines), drinks a large amount of alcohol, has a history of liver disease, is older than 70 years, has diabetes, especially Type 2 diabetes, that is not well controlled or has problems with certain proteins in your blood.
